Brigitte Krenn

Brigitte Krenn is an attained doctorate computer linguist. She was the scientific chief of the Research studio Austria - Smart agent Technologies from 2007 to 2009 and is a principal Researcher at Austrian Forschungsinstitut for Artificial Intelligence. She is an experienced coordinator of national and international research projects.

Brigitte Krenn also works as a Senior Scientist at the Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence. She has successfully coordinated the IST project NECA (Net Environment for Embodied Emotional Conversational Agents). Currently she is coordinator of the FP6 Cognitive Systems project RASCALLI (Responsive Artificial Situated Cognitive Agents Living and Learning on the Internet).

Brigitte Krenn holds a Master’s degree in German Language and Literature, Psychology, Philosophy and Pedagogy, and a PhD in Computational Linguistics. Since 1990 she has worked in a variety of research projects in the field of computational linguistics. Her current research focuses on the one hand on animated conversational character technology, including multimodal interaction and affective communication, and on the other hand on ontology and knowledge representation employing semantic web technologies. As a member of the ongoing FP6 NoE HUMAINE (Human-Machine Interaction Network on Emotion) she is involved in modelling and representing aspects of affect in multimodal communicative behaviour, and in assessing user involvement in emotionally rich HCI.
